Santiago Celis - Class of 2024 -Santiago Celis, the Metro League MVP, was a massive factor in the Boys’ Soccer team’s dominant season that ended with second place in the State Championship. The “goal-scoring machine” scored a fantastic 19 goals this season and was also described by his teammates as a great friend and a joy to play with. Santiago plans to continue his love for the game at Bellevue college. Tawaf Aboudou - Class of 2024 -After a strong performance in the 2023-2024 football season, Tawaf Aboudou dominated the metro track and field world. Not only did he break the school record in the 100m dash with an impressive 10.89 seconds, but he also jumped the 3rd longest triple jump in school history with 45’ 5”. Along with his multiple-medaled performance in metros and districts, he also got 1st place in long jump at the highly-competitive Oregon relays and recently got 1st in the long jump at Nike Outdoor Nationals. Tawaf is committed to Eastern Washington University for long jump, triple jump, and the 400m. Rahshawn Clark - Class of 2024 -Rahshawn Clark was exceptional on both sides of the ball as part of the Football team. On offense, he was one of the best Wide Receivers in the state, earning First Team All-State honors. On defense, he was also one of the best Safeties in the Metro League, earning Second Team All-Metro honors. Although he was not around all 4 of his high school years at Garfield, it was always impressive to witness his strength, speed, athleticism, and love for the game. Next year, he will be a dawg for the University of Washington Huskies. Finn Terry - Class of 2024 -Finn Terry excelled as a double jacket athlete. In the fall, he was fantastically consistent as the Football team’s kicker and punter and earned First Team All-Metro Kicker with some impressive clutch kicks. In the spring, he was a standout goalie for the Boys' Soccer team. He definitely left an impact here at Garfield. Marcel Jones - Class of 2025 -The transfer from Franklin High School made an immediate impact on Garfield Athletics. As part of the Football team, he earned First Team All-Metro Outside Linebacker. As part of the Boys’ Basketball team, he has proven to exhibit exceptional ball-handling skills and passion for both games. It’s exciting to see what he will do in his senior year. Cooper Haley - Class of 2024 -This stellar defender was instrumental in the Boys’ Soccer team’s second place state run. The league definitely noticed his presence, as they awarded him First Team All-Metro honors. It is exciting to see how he continues to develop with the Chapman University Men’s Soccer Team. EJ Caminong - Class of 2024 -Wrapping up his senior season at Garfield, EJ once again led the football team to a solid season. Throughout his 4 years at Garfield, the 6’2 quarterback has been able to lead our football team through his leadership, scrambling ability, and natural arm talent. EJ ended the season with 1,575 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions, with a 67% completion percentage. It is without question that EJ has cemented his legacy here at Garfield, and many are looking forward to seeing what EJ will do next year at Cal. Pule Leatigaga - Class of 2024 -Yet again, this 6’5” 305 pound brick wall with terrifying speed stopped just about anything from getting past him. The Portland State commit was a nightmare for every pass-rusher in the Metro League, earning First Team All-Metro Tackle and Metro League Offensive Lineman of the Year. He will be a force to be reckoned with in the Big Sky division. Jamari Harris - Class of 2024 -Transferring from Kentridge, Jamari was a key part in the 23-24 boys basketball season. Being a 6’5” forward, Jamari averaged 10 points 4 rebounds and 3 assists per game, and shot 100% from the free throw line. Hands down, the best part of Jamari’s game was his finishing, and throughout the season, caught many posters and flashy dunks on various players. Alongside players like Legend Smiley and BJ Roy, Jamari was able to help bring the bulldogs to a 20 win season and a metro league championship, as well as make 1st team all metro. He will continue his basketball journey at Central Washington University. Legend Smiley - Class of 2025 -After finishing his 3rd season at Garfield, this 6’5” guard has dominated the metro league, and led our basketball team to yet another solid season. Legend averaged 32 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2 assists per game. Ever since his freshman season, legend has proven to be one of the top in his class, as he has racked up 8 offers and counting, including ones from the University of Washington and University of Southern California. Smiley has earned a spot in the ESPN top 100 for the class of 2025 and is only going to continue to grow more his senior year. |
Katie Fiso - Class of 2024 -Katie Fiso carved her name into the legends of Garfield High, leading the Girls’ Basketball team to an unprecedented 4th straight State Championship title. The Gatorade Player of the Year and 2x MaxPreps Washington player of the year was beyond dominant on the court as she averaged an impressive 24 ppg. She also scored an amazing 29 points and multiple clutch 3s at the 3A state finals to take home the state title trophy for the 3rd time in her high school career. She will next take on college basketball at the University of Oregon, where she is sure to dominate. Sarah Lessig - Class of 2025 -A multi-talented athlete, Sarah Lessig excelled as part of Garfield’s Girl’s Basketball, Softball, and Flag Football teams. As part of the Girl’s Basketball team’s historic 4th straight state championship, she was awarded First Team All-Metro honors. As part of the Softball team, she had a mammoth .953 slugging and was a big part of their 4th place state run. She has collected an incredible 20 offers and counting for her dominant basketball skills and is going to be a force for her senior year. Taya Blankeship-Poydras - Class of 2024 -Blankenship-Poydras was one of the best volleyball players around this year. In fact, the 5’9” senior earned All Metro MVP and was a force to be reckoned with when it came to her incredible reaction time and beyond athletic strength and aggressiveness. Anyone who witnessed her in a game was sure to be impressed. She is going to continue her greatness at Regis University for her collegiate career. Emi Skerritt - Class of 2026 -As one of the youngest players on the varsity roster, the striker sure made her mark. She scored around an impressive 10 goals just this high school season and continues to keep up the good work into her club soccer season as well. Her athleticism is present across multiple sports as she also jumped a 15’ 4” long jump and a 33' 7” triple jump which placed her first in the school for girls in both events. She has two more years ahead of her at Garfield and is sure to make a bigger impression. Madeline Rivard - Class of 2025 -A standout member of the Bullfrogs, Madeline Rivard swam her way to the State Championship this fall. She swam in 100m breaststroke, 200m IM, and several relays. In addition to her prowess in the pool, her leadership shines, as she will be one of the captains of the team next year. Going into her Senior season, she looks further as she has verbally committed to the Columbia University swim team. Jordana King - Class of 2025 -Jordana King was an instrumental piece in Softball’s 4th place state run. This year, earning First Team All-Metro Shortstop and hitting a ridiculous 2.560 OPS in the state tournament, she is poised to lead Garfield softball to a 3rd straight state championship tournament appearance in her senior year. King has verbally committed to the prestigious Stanford University for softball. Jayda Lewis - Class of 2025 -Jayda Lewis has proven to be a key player for the girls basketball team as she has been a core player since her freshman year. Her versatility has been extremely important to the team as she can play nearly every inch of the court all while being an aggressive player. Jayda Lewis has also received her first D-1 offer from Utah State and is expected to college more in her future. Nicole Kwatinetz - Class of 2024 -Kwatinetz was a vital component for the Volleydawgs that made districts this year. The All-Metro First Team Outside was also a great leader off the court as one of two team captains and was a major component for the team's success with an impressive winning streak. Her dedication and love for the sport is equally as impressive as her skill and athleticism is. It will be exciting to see her excel as an UC Davis Aggie in beach volleyball. Sydney Joanovic - Class of 2025 -Not only described as a great leader and friend by her teammates on the Garfield soccer team, but Joanovic has also made an impression on the pitch as she is one of the varsity teams core players. She has played on the varsity team ever since her freshman year and is going to hold a leadership position next season as team captain. Her dedication, drive, and talent for her sport is present on and off the field. Be sure to catch her dominate for her senior season next year. Mae Robinson - Class of 2025 -Mae Robinson has been a star in the Garfield track community since freshman year. Despite injuries, Mae has persevered and made it to state this season in the 100m hurdles. Not to mention, she placed top 6 in every regular season meet in at least one event and also had strong performances at the highly competitive Oregon Relays. Her teammates also describe her as an amazing friend and leader. We look forward to what she will accomplish senior year. |
