Garfield vs West Seattle Recap

Garfield had their second match May the 4th against West Seattle High School with boy’s teams winning 5-0 and girl’s teams seeing a narrow defeat 2-3.
Bernardo Savitt and Aiden Taylor played boys singles 1 and 2 and both won in straight sets. Taylor used his kick serve to his advantage and Savitt won multiple points utilizing his impeccable hands at the net. Ezra Ford and Owen Tiffany played doubles 1 and defeated their opponents 6-2 6-3 enabled by their aggressive returns and consistency throughout. Boy’s doubles 2, Daniel Casey and Sam Doherty, persevered through long points populated by many lobs to win their match. Rounding out the boy’s team, doubles 3, Lawton Friedland and Samir Manchanda, played an exciting match in which their adept volleys defined their win.
Sophomore Lakelle Bridges played singles 1 losing in straight sets, but displaying a consistent ability to hit deep groundstrokes. Singles 2 lost in straight sets though making strides in getting to the net near the end of the match. Doubles 1, Nicole Wang and Annika Harding, overpowered their opponents with their cutting slice serves and penetrating groundstrokes to rally past a period of uncertainty and win the match. Doubles 2, Simone Jacobs and Pearl Rosen, fought hard but lost in straight sets to West Seattle. Doubles 3, Maggie Duan and Ani Schepman, won their three set battle through a tiebreaker in which loud cheering from both of Garfield’s teams helped push the two to play some of their best tennis of the match.
Garfield’s next game is Tuesday the 11th against Eastside Catholic.
