Volleyball Preview

This year’s volleyball team will have to deal with a lot of uncertainty but should look to improve on their successful season last year. In the 2019-20 season, the team finished 10-5 overall and a 7-3 league record. This put them 3rd in the Metro Sound division behind just Roosevelt and Ballard. Additionally, players like Phoebe Frank, Lucia Rezjek, Jane Fix, Octavia Hoffman, Stella Sterk, Clare Becker, and Kelly Becker received all-league awards for their efforts a year ago. While they are without many graduated seniors, the volleyball team has plenty of current seniors who can lead the team to success.
There is much uncertainty coming with this season though as the start date has changed many times since the end of last school year. Volleyball was set to start in September, but COVID cases surged which caused WIAA to postpone till winter. The start date was then scheduled for February 1st until it was further postponed until February 22nd. The February 22nd date seems to be on track to happen, but with the amount of changes that have already been made, nothing is guaranteed. Another factor will be how players adapt to the start of the season because it’s been over a year since volleyball’s last match, and indoor facilities have mostly remained closed.
The schedule for the team has now been released including seven matches as well as a metro tournament/championship later in the season. Their first match is on March 3rd against Holy Names Academy and matches will span from early march until mid-April.
