Girls Basketball Top 5 Games of the Year
Jack Jassy
Here’s a review of the best games this year for the Girls Basketball team.
Honorable Mentions:
Garfield 55, Lakeside 33
Garfield 75, West Seattle 39
5. January 26th: Garfield 54, Lakeside 46
This was Garfield’s first close game so it gave a glimpse into how the team would respond to adversity. Lakeside came prepared but Garfield won the first of four matchups they’d play against them.
4. December 3rd: Garfield 111, Cleveland 2
The game vs Cleveland was not competitive. In fact, it was the most uncompetitive game of the entire season for any team. But, it earns a spot because of how incredible this score is and the fact that Garfield held Cleveland to two points. Cleveland was held to under 10 points three times this season but never two points other than against Garfield.
3. February 11th: Garfield 64, Lakeside 57
Garfield led by more than 10 for most of the game but Lakeside made it closer at the end. The first championship win for this team deserves a spot on this list.
2. March 5th: Garfield 39, Lake Washington 38
Yes, Garfield won the State Championship in this game. Yes, this completed the 21-0 season. But the two teams combined to shoot under 30% and neither eclipsed 40 points. So, this game doesn’t get the number one spot on the list.
1. March 4th: Garfield 56, Arlington 42
Although it wasn’t for the State Championship, this game had everything. These were two of the top-ranked teams in the State for the entire season and Arlington put up a real fight. They led Garfield by six points going into the 4th quarter, but a signature 25-point performance from Katie Fiso launched the Bulldogs into the Championship, as well as 15 points from Malia Samuels and 9 rebounds from Jayda Lewis.
