Boys Basketball Top 5 Games of the Year
Jack Jassy
Here’s a review of the best games this year for the Boys Basketball team.
Honorable Mentions:
February 15th: Garfield 77, Eastside Catholic 62
December 20th: Garfield 63, South Medford 50
5. February 17th: Garfield 76, Rainier Beach 57
It’s hard not to put a Garfield vs Rainier Beach on a top 5 games of the year list. Although Garfield won by 19 points, it was competitive the entire game and Raphiel Justice’s 3-pointer in the final seconds electrified the Bulldog fans.
4. December 7th: Garfield 70, Seattle Prep 61
This was Garfield’s first real test of the season at Seattle Prep. Both teams played well and it was a two point game at one point but clutch shots from Jaylin Stewart gave Garfield the advantage. The game gave a sense that these two teams would meet in a more important game later in the season.
3. December 21st: Garfield 62, Auburn 53
The only reason this game isn’t higher on the list is because it happened on December 21st and not in February or March. It was a showdown of the two best teams in the State and both teams’ stars shined as Koren Johnson led all scorers with 27 points. This was also the first packed game in two years which made it exciting.
2. February 19th: Garfield 57, O’Dea 49
It can go either way with these last two games. This game was an absolute thriller as it was close the entire game and went to overtime after a game tying shot by O’Dea. The Bulldogs were able to pull ahead in overtime and never looked back. But it doesn’t eclipse the number one game on this list.
1. February 11th: Garfield 67, Seattle Prep 60
It was close but the comeback win in the Metro Championship gets the top spot. Garfield came back from down 12 points and big shots from Sherrell McCullum and Jaylin Stewart energized the Garfield student section which rushed the court after the game.
