2020-21 Gymnastics Preview

This 2020-21 gymnastics team will have many different faces this year, but will have some key returners to lead the way. The team consisted mainly of seniors last year with over 60% of the team graduated. Sara Mathan and Ella Sampson are two returners in their senior years, so they will be key to improving on last year’s effort.
The team’s best match last year was on January 10th in an 120 point effort that beat all teams but Ballard that day. In the Metro Championship, the bulldogs finished 9th, but put out their best effort of the year with a 121 point effort. An interesting thing to see will be how much improved this team is because they’ve had over a year to get ready for this season; but gyms have largely remained closed during the pandemic.
Gymnastics is considered a low-risk sport so it will start on February 22nd along with many other low, moderate, and high risk sports. They will be able to be in competitions in phase 2, but many counties are in phase 1 in Governor Inslee’s “healthy roadmap to recovery.” The Puget Sound region just got moved into phase 2, so that puts a gymnastics season on a clear path to happen. In early February, the Gymnastics team will be able to hold practices and training for the team until competitions are permitted to happen.
