Metro League Championships Recap
Hope Yu
Within the swim team, Metro Championships have a reputation of being an incredibly fast meet. The idea of having a ‘fast’ meet may sound weird to a non-swimmer but for some reason this meet has a tradition of incredibly good swims and a positive atmosphere. Many of us specifically look forward to Metros the entire season because we know how much fun it will be. Another element to Metros is the chance to see friends. Many of our friends from club swim team go to different high schools and these championship meets allow us to see each other. The Garfield swim team has historically had good relationships with both Holy Names and Lincoln!
Some breakout swims this meet came from: Averi Webb, Mia Foster, Alana Tamura, Shay Camplin, Cole Liffman, and Maddie Rivard. As a team we placed 3rd - this being the highest we have placed in more than five years. All of our relays qualified for state and many individual swimmers.
Moving forward we have districts this upcoming Friday and the state championships the weekend after. Please expect good swims and high rankings for these next two meets!
