Girls Swim Meet Two Recap
Hope Yu
The GHS Swim Team won another meet last Friday; 116 (GHS) to 47 (FHS). Please note that Franklin had fewer swimmers compared to Garfield and it isn’t a directly fair comparison.
A couple notable swims by one of our Captains: Evelyn Bartlett, sophomore Ava Schroening, and junior Shay Camplin. Bartlett made her district cut in the 100 butterfly and placed 2nd overall. Schroening dominated in the 500 free and was incredibly consistent as always. Camplin shone in her 50 breaststroke during the 200 Medley Relay.
On Wednesday the 29th we had our Teja Zeribi from the club Minds Matter (she is also one of our captains!) present about body image and eating disorders in sports. We also have finally ordered all of our team-designed apparel and our official suits were delivered. Team pictures were taken Tuesday the 28th.
In general, the team atmosphere (always has been) but is becoming even more positive and fostering of a safe, supportive environment. Many were on edge because of the early COVID case we had weeks ago but with that in the past, our commitment to enjoying ourselves in a safe manner seems to be increasing exponentially.
