Girls Cross Country Meet One Recap
Ellie Wakefield
At yesterday’s league meet at Magnuson park, the girls cross country team raced against Roosevelt, Ballard, Nathan Hale, Eastside Catholic, and Ingraham. They faced the most significant competition from Roosevelt, who had five runners with sub-21 times, including a junior ranked first in the league as of last season.
Garfield finished with two girls in the top 10, including freshman Jayda Lewis who ran a 20:48 for her first ever 5k race. Six out of Garfield’s 11 varsity runners got new personal best times, and the team ultimately placed 3rd behind Roosevelt and Ballard.
After a couple days to recover and train, the team now looks toward their first 5k invitational of the season, which will be held this Saturday at Fort Steilacoom and have over 90 school teams attending.
