Girls Basketball Season Recap
Aaron Orbeck
The Bulldogs’ last loss to the Holy Names Academy in the consolation bracket of the Metro League Playoffs marks the end of their season. Similar to the boys' basketball team, the girls’ team had a strong regular season with a record of seven wins and only two losses. One of those loses was sustained against eventual league winners Seattle Prep.
Unfortunately, the Bulldogs’ post-season didn’t go as well as they would have hoped. Garfield started off strong with a dominant 58-27 win over Roosevelt. The semi-final game was against number one seed, Seattle Prep which they lost 72-54. That loss sent the Bulldogs down to the consolation bracket for a game against Holy Names which they also lost 60-51.
This year, the Bulldogs found quality scoring from many players who will return next season. Juniors Jada Walters and Kiana Davis led the team with 12.2 and 12.1 points per game respectively. Sophomore Naveah Talbert followed close behind with 11.3 points per game. Additionally, the Bulldogs were missing some key players due to conflict with the travel ball season.
Fans of the Bulldogs should have hope for next year since many of the top performers on the team are going to return next year. Hopefully the 2021-22 season sees the Bulldogs return to their State Championship winning ways.
