Garfield vs West Seattle Recap
Jack Jassy
The Garfield golf team played West Seattle High School on March 12th looking for their second win. It wasn’t to be as West Seattle and Garfield tied 99-99 in a thrilling battle.
Last year, Garfield had placed one spot higher than West Seattle in the Metro Championship. Given that fact, the match was expected to be close and the match was very entertaining
West Seattle’s top two players combined for 46 points, which was four points more than Garfield's top two players, Jack Theiss and Griffin Thoreson, who combined for a healthy 42 points. West Seattle’s next two players also outscored Garfield’s next two (Ian Wlitamuth and Jack Jassy) by three points. With only two more players’ scores, it was going to be a tall task for Garfield to make up that deficit. However, an unexpected 17 point performance from Garfield Freshman Jackson Schlemmer brought Garfield back into the match but Garfield ended up just coming up short of West Seattle by a point, losing 99-98.
Garfield’s scoring was led again by Jack Theiss with 23 points, Griffin Thoreson with 19 points, Ian Wiltamuth and Jackson Schlemmer with 17 points, and Jack Jassy and Hiroshi Koda having 12 points. Although it wasn’t a winning effort, Garfield put up its best total point tally of the season, and was an effort to build on for its next match vs Franklin. Garfield will play Franklin on March 15th at 3:30 PM, and hopes to get back to .500 at 2-1-1.
