Garfield vs Seattle Prep Recap
Aaron Orbeck
The Garfield boys basketball team beat Seattle Prep in a hotly contested game 70-61. This win makes the Bulldogs 3-0 thus far.
The score was close throughout the game. In the first half, Garfield maintained a steady lead, but Seattle Prep kept in touch partly because of a slew of questionable foul calls by the refs. The second half remained tight until the final few minutes of the 4th quarter where Garfield went on a run and secured the win.
The Bulldogs dominated the paint thanks to the efforts of Sherell McCullum Jr. who led the team with 19 points and 8 rebounds. His defensive presence around the basket also made an impact. Jaylin Stewart had another great performance scoring 17 points with 3 3-pointers, 2 rebounds and 3 assists. Koren Johnson scored 16 and looked to have found his rhythm after returning back to Garfield.
Garfield’s next game is against the Roosevelt Rough Riders, a team the Bulldogs are expected to beat. Come to Garfield at 8:30 to see if the Bulldogs can continue their winning streak.
