Garfield vs O'Dea Recap

The Garfield golf team battled against O'Dea High School on October 5th, looking for a large upset. They instead got a devastating 146 to 113 defeat. Garfield moves to 6-2-0 while O’Dea improves to 7-1-0.
Garfield came into the match missing a crucial player in Freshman Jake Rogers, the team's second highest scorer. Senior Jack Theiss and Freshman James Lynch led it off, playing against O’Dea’s Brady Foster and Carter Gribble. Jack played an exceptional round, shooting 38, equaling 25 points. James shot 43, adding up to 20 points. However, it wasn’t enough as both O’Dea players shot an incredible 37, equaling 26 points each. O’Dea won the first matchup 52-45.
Senior Jack Jassy and Sophomore Jackson Schlemmer played in the second group, playing against O'Dea's Zach Frankenberg and Joe Githens. Jack showed a great performance, shooting 43 for 20 points! He played five points higher than his season average. Jackson shot a 50, coming to 13 points. Zach shot another insane score for O’Dea, shooting 39 for 24 points. Joe shot 41 for 22 points, somehow barely in their top 4. O’Dea won the second matchup 46-33.
Sophomore Jack Sundberg and Freshman Cole Yagi played in the third group, playing against O’Dea’s Bryce Dunbar and Nathan Farmer. Jack shot 47, totaling 16 points. Cole shot 44 for 19 points, bouncing back from a 10-point performance from the last match. O’Dea’s Bryce D shot 40, totaling 23 points. Nathan shot 45 for 18 points. Garfield won the third matchup 35-23 as O’Dea’s Nathan F was not one of the six scores used by O’Dea in the final score. Seniors Mason Albert and Coleman Standifer played in the fourth group, playing against O’Dea’s Paddy Mahar and Matthew Livingston. Mason shot 51, equaling a score of 12. Coleman shot 58 for a score of 5. O’Dea’s Paddy M shot yet another insane score with a round of 38, equaling 25 points. Matthew shot 47 for a score of 16. O’Dea won the matchup 25-0 as Mason, Coleman, and Matthew’s scores were not used in the final total. Garfield added up to 113 while O’Dea added up to 146, the season’s second highest one-week total.
Garfield must improve greatly as they play Lincoln High School on Friday, October 8th, at 3:30 at Jefferson Golf course. Lincoln is a strong team and are the only team with a higher one week total than O’Dea’s 146. Garfield hopes to get their 7th win.
