Garfield vs O'Dea Recap
Anders Pearson
In the Bulldogs first and last home meet of the season, they were defeated by O'Dea.
Due to several complications with swim meets this season, this was the first meet the Bulldogs were able to swim at their home pool, Medgar Evers. The team went in inspired to defeat their opponents, but lost in the relays. Five out of eight individual events were won by Garfield, but the higher scoring relays were all won by O'Dea.
O'Dea was a difficult opponent, but it is to be expected from the sports focused school. So sport focused in fact, to save time for more training, as the O'Dea swim team spelled out “O-D-E-A” in a cheer, their english requirement for the year was met.
The final relay of the meet was not a sad loss, because it contained two senior relays. As the final competitive swim for the team's seniors this year, two relays were assembled. One of the relays even swapped out their dives for cannonballs and belly flops.
I’d like to give a special shout out to our graduating seniors: Ben Bryant, Yosef Gared, Eli Waite, Adam Olsen, Memphis Woods and Theodore Sakamoto. Congratulations on a final year of hard work and triumph in the pool.
With a second loss, the Bulldogs have a 2-2 record, hoping to end with a win against their final regular season opponent of the year, Bishop Blanchet.
