Garfield vs O'Dea Recap
Malachi Washington
The Garfield baseball team played a doubleheader against O'Dea at Bannerwood Park on Monday. The final scores were 3-2 and 11-1 both wins for O'Dea.
In the first game, which counts toward Metro League playoff positioning, the Bulldogs started Levi Bauck. Bauck gave up four hits and three runs while striking out five in a complete game. Two of those runs were scored in the 2nd. The Bulldogs scored two runs in the 3rd with an RBI single by Louis Simon scoring Oliver Hogan and a passed ball that scored Bauck. However the Bulldogs were unable to score despite having two runners on in the 6th and the bases loaded in the 7th. O'Dea scored the eventual winning run with a sacrifice fly by Aydan Tenders in the bottom of the 5th. Spencer Burgess got the win for O'Dea while Brendan Doshi recorded a save with O'Dea winning 3-2.
The second game of the doubleheader did not count as a league game and so a lot of players who did not play the first game received playing time. Colin Bryant started the game for the Bulldogs and pitched three innings, allowing one run with three strikeouts. Garfield scored a run in the top of the second when Henry Smidt scored on a throwing error. O'Dea tied the game by Asa Reese also scoring on a throwing error. In the bottom of 6th the wheels came off for Garfield with O'Dea scoring 10 runs off of Ben Bennett and Nick Sajer and winning 11-1 aided by a couple of errors.
The Bulldogs next play on Thursday at home against old KingCo rival Ballard at 3:30. They are currently 1-5 on the year.
