Garfield vs Lincoln Recap

The Garfield golf team played against Lincoln High School on October 8th, looking for a clutch win going into the final stretch of the year. They instead got a devastating 148 -109 defeat. Garfield moves to 6-3-0.
Garfield entered the match missing two key players in senior Jack Jassy and sophomore Jackson Schlemmer, who are two of the team’s regular scorers. Senior Jack Theiss and freshman Jake Rogers led it off, playing against Lincoln’s Isaac Elaimy and Ben Hanson. Jack played very well, shooting 41, for a score of 22. Jake shot 45, equaling a score of 18. Isaac played an incredible round, shooting 35 for a score of 28. Ben played just as well, shooting 36 for a score of 27. Lincoln won the first matchup with a dominant score of 55-40.
Freshmen Cole Yagi and James Lynch played in the second group, battling against Lincoln’s Kevin Huang and Sam Phippen. James played great, shooting a 43, equaling a score of 20! Cole shot 47 for a score of 16. Kevin shot 40, totaling a score of 23. Sam played a dominant round, shooting a round of 36, adding up to a score of 27. Lincoln won the second matchup with another dominant score of 50-36.
Sophomore Jack Sundberg and senior Mason Albert played in the third group, going against Lincoln’s Matteo Jerret and Gunnar Peterson. Jack shot 46 for a score of 17. Mason played great, shooting 47, equaling a score of 16! He played five points better than his season average! Matteo played a good round, shooting 41 for a score of 22. Gunnar shot 46, equaling a score of 17. Garfield won the third matchup with a score of 33-22, as Gunnar was not one of the scorers used in Lincoln’s final total.
Freshman Bryce Axtell and sophomore Connor DeRubeis played in the final group, playing against Lincoln’s Gavin Tilev and Theo Shernoff. Bryce showed a great performance, shooting 50 for a score of 13. Connor shot 59 for a score of four. Gavin played a great round, shooting 43 for a score of 20. However, Theo played even better, shooting 42 for a score of 21. Lincoln won the final matchup with a score of 21-0 as Bryce, Connor, and Gavin were not one of the scorers used in either team’s final total. Garfield added up to 109, a season low. Lincoln added up to 148, tying their season high and the metro league highest one week total this year.
Garfield looks to improve going into their next match against Nathan Hale High School on Monday, October 11th, at 3:30 at Jackson Golf course. Garfield hopes to end their season with a win.
