Girls Garfield vs Holy Names Academy Recap
Ellie Wakefield
The Garfield girls team were up against their steepest competition yet on Thursday, racing against the undefeated and historically fast Holy Names Academy.
Aware that they were up against some tough competition, going into the race the Bulldogs strategized to run as a pack for as long as we could—a plan of action that’s served us well in the past—and try to hold the five places following HNA’s top three runners to secure a win for Garfield, if barely.
The first mile went relatively well, with many of Garfield’s top seven girls staying ahead of pace and steadily picking off Holy Names runners. Though running on a challenging and fairly hilly course, Garfield were all able to find their limits and push themselves physically and mentally. Although everyone ran a good race and with multiple PRs across the team, ultimately Holy Names won the race holding six of the top seven finishing spots.
Going into next week Garfield is looking forward to racing against West Seattle’s XC team at Lincoln park, hopefully restarting their winning streak with the second to last league meet of the season!
