Garfield vs Franklin Recap
Hayden Murphy
Garfield Cross Country started the season with a win on Thursday at Genesee Park.
The Garfield boys and girls cross country teams each came away with a win on Thursday against Franklin. The wet course and continuous rain made the conditions less than ideal for running, but the Bulldogs made it work. The meet kicked off with the boys Varsity race at 3:40, and Garfield was dominant. The varsity boys took five of the top six positions and finished with 20 points (in cross country the lower score wins and the best possible score is 15). The girls race started a little later and had a similar outcome, with the Garfield varsity girls finishing with 24 points and winning comfortably. This was a great start to the season for the team and a good result to build on in the coming weeks.
Next week, the runners are heading back to Genesee park for a race against Cleveland, and will be looking to dominate once again. The team will only get better from here and will aim to compete for the Metro League South division title in this unique season.
