Garfield vs Cleveland Recap
Cole Yagi
The Garfield golf team played Cleveland High School on September 28th looking to get their fifth straight win. They got it easily with a monstrous 120-24 victory. Garfield improves to 5-1-0 while Cleveland goes to 0-6-0.
The match was unbalanced from the start, as Cleveland came into the match with just two players. In a regular match, each team starts eight players, and uses six of their scores. With two players, it is practically impossible to win against a full team. Even then, Cleveland put up a valiant effort, with sophomore Colin Tounalom scoring 49 for 14 points and freshman Sam Bernier scoring 53 for 10 points, totaling a score of 24. Meanwhile, the Garfield team played solidly, welcoming back freshman Jake Rogers, who did not play in the last game against Ingraham.
The first tee group consisted of senior Jack Theiss, who led the team with a round of 39, totaling a whopping 24 points, which was equal to the Cleveland team combined. The second tee group consisted of freshmen Jake Rogers, James Lynch, and Cole Yagi. Jake shot a round of 42, equaling a score of 21. Cole and James both shot 44, which equaled a score of 19 each. The third tee group consisted of sophomores Jackson Schlemmer and Jack Sundberg. Jackson also shot 44, coming to a score of 19. Jack ended with a round of 45, adding up to a score of 18. As a team, Garfield totaled a score of 120, their second highest score as a team.
This match was good for team morale, heading to their next game against Franklin on Thursday, September 30th at 3:30 PM at Jefferson Golf course. Garfield hopes to win their sixth straight match.
