Garfield vs Bishop Blanchet Recap
Anders Pearson
In the last duel meet of the season, the bulldogs pull through with an easy victory.
Heading into this meet, swimmers were filled with a mix of emotions; excitement and anticipation mixed with feelings of anxiety and stress. As the last regular season meet of the year, and the deciding meet of whether the Bulldogs would finish with a winning or losing record, it’s no surprise many swimmers were nervous.
The meet began with a promising start, with the medley relay crushing Blanchet. In the two following relays, although Garfield was seeded to lose, they were again able to defeat Blanchet’s relay teams. Because relays score the most points, winning all three put Garfield ahead without even counting individual events.
Parik Kukreja, a junior, lost narrowly to one of Blanchet’s own juniors in the 200 free. Later in the 500 free, against the same opponent from Blanchet, Kukreja was able to easily win and redeem himself.
Vincent Pham, also a junior, dominated in both his individual and relay events. He even secured his state qualifying time in the 100 butterfly, making him the first Garfield state qualifier this year.
As the final events of the night wrapped up, it was clear Garfield had won. For many Bulldogs, this was their last meet of the season. But for a select few, they’ll continue to race next week at Metros.
Great season and good luck Bulldogs!
