Garfield vs Ballard Recap
Aaron Orbeck
After a tough battle, the Bulldogs barely lost their game against the Ballard Beavers 28-27. This loss now brings the Bulldogs record to 1-3.
Running back Quinton Jordan started the scoring in the 1st quarter with a short rushing touchdown after breaking several tackles which, after a successful extra point attempt, put the Bulldogs ahead 7-0. Ballard struck back with a 19-yard touchdown pass to begin the 2nd quarter. After a series of unsuccessful drives by both teams the Beavers took the lead with a passing touchdown into the corner of the end zone. A successful extra point made the score 14-7 in favor of Ballard. The Bulldogs soon responded with a massive passing touchdown to Rowley Canale making the score 14-14 entering the 2nd half.
To start the 2nd half the Beavers took the lead again after a quarterback scramble into the end zone. Garfield then made the score even again at 21 with an electrifying kickoff return touchdown by Amdane Abadoo. The score didn’t remain even for long though, because Ballard quickly regained the lead with a short throw into the end zone.
After several turnovers and unsuccessful drives, the Bulldogs got the ball at midfield with little time on the clock in the 4th quarter with the hopes of tying the game. A great catch and run to the endzone brought the Bulldogs within one point of Ballard at 28-27. However, hopes of tying the game were dashed when the extra point kick to tie the game was blocked.
While this game didn’t go the way the Bulldogs had hoped, they’ll have another chance to win next week against O’dea. The final regular season game is a must win for the Bulldog’s playoff hopes.
