Boys Swim Meet One Recap
Anders Pearson
In Garfield Boy’s Swim Team’s first meet of the season against West Seattle and Chief Sealth, strong performances from many swimmers led to an easy victory. Winning first and second place in all but one event, the team remained unchallenged throughout most of the meet.
In a close race of the 100 yard freestyle between junior Ien Tran and senior Anders Pearson, Ien led through the first 50 yards. But in the second half, Anders was able to overtake Iean, gliding into a victory.
Sophomore Kyle Cobden dominated in the 100 yard butterfly, winning by almost 10 seconds. Kyle even beat his older brother junior Graham Cobden, but I’m sure in the future their sibling rivalry will result in some closer races.
The Garfield team is filled with new swimmers and new talent this year, but many swimmers are unfamiliar with meet processes. This first meet served as a great warm up for the rest of the season, where the team expects to face much harder opponents and swim much faster.
