Boys Swim Season Preview
Anders Pearson
This year, the Garfield Boys swim team has a lot to live up to. Following the girls’ 5th place finish at state, the team has big shoes to fill.
Before the season started, struggles were encountered trying to find a new coach. Luckily, new head coach Brennon Ham stepped up a week before the season started. His experience working with SPS before has allowed him to effortlessly find his place as head coach. He’s started off the season with a combination of difficult sets and racing practice, as well as encouraging team bonding and welcoming new swimmers.
The team is large this year, hosting close to 35 swimmers per practice, much more than previous years. Last year the team took a hit as practices were at 5:30am, but this year the team has rebounded well.
Our varsity swimmers look promising this year, with most of the speed coming from the Junior class. We hope to see big things from the juniors this year, in the pool and leading the team. There are also some new freshmen with lots of potential, and they still have four years of improvement ahead of them.
The captains this year are Ben Bryant and Anders Pearson who have both been swimming since freshman year.
The first swim meet for the team is on December 3rd, hopefully the season begins with a strong start.
